Missing In Action

RooThis has been a tough couple of days for Kaitlyn.  Amber and I are convinced that a meltdown could happen at any time, and there is really nothing we can do about it.

Kaitlyn got really excited Friday when Amber told her that she was allowed to take her favorite stuffed animal to school this week.  She immediately announced that she was taking Roo.

Roo went to school in Kaitlyn’s backpack Monday morning, and she was beside herself with excitement.  Roo is by far her favorite, and to be able to share him with her class was something that she was really looking forward to.  What Amber and I didn’t know was that he would be spending the night at school all week.  That meant no Roo at home.  Kaitlyn seemed fine with that fact when I picked her up Monday afternoon.

By last night, however, we could tell that there was something really bothering Kaitlyn.  It didn’t take long for us to get to the bottom of it…she missed Roo big time.

While she has had her dolphin Archie keeping her company at night, we can tell she is just not the same without Roo around.  There is just something about him that makes her feel safe, and without him there with her, I think she feels a little vulnerable.

After today, she only has to make it through tonight without Roo by her side.  Tomorrow is the last day of school for the week, and that means that he will be coming home with her in her backpack.  We’re hopeful that she will be able to keep her mind occupied before bed while she watches Survivor, because if she starts to think too much about missing him, we could be in for a long night.
