Today is a very special day for us.  Six years ago today, Kaitlyn was born.  And every day since has been a tremendous blessing.

Amber and I could not have anticipated the ride we were about to get on when Kaitlyn was born.  We knew that being parents would not be easy, but we never expected that being parents would be so rewarding.

Six years ago today, our lives changed forever.  Six years ago today, we welcomed Kaitlyn into our world and she has been at the center of our world ever since.  Six years ago today, we were surrounded by some family and friends as they shared in our special day, and we are forever thankful.

The last six years have brought a surpsise at every turn, but I would not change one thing.  Amber and I have grown into, at least in our opinions, be great parents.  Kaitlyn is becoming an amazing person, growing more and more each day.  We constantly hear from people about how polite she is, and how she has good manners (please, thank you, sir, and ma’am are required); we hear about how gentle she is, and how nice she is, and even how smart she is (from a parent that spent a lot of time in her kindergarten class).  Each compliment we hear reassures Amber and I that we are doing things the right way with Kaitlyn.  We know that we are not perfect parents, but every thing we do is with the best of intentions.

If I was given the choice six years ago today as to whether or not Kaitlyn would have Asperger’s or not, I would have asked that we only be given what we can handle.  We know that Kaitlyn has Aperger’s for a reason, and it is our job to raise awareness and increase education.  Not doing so would be a waste of a tremendous gift and opportunity.
